- How long does it take to decide about an application?
Processing time depends on which visa type you have
applied for. Our current processing
times can be found on the Customer Services and Feedback
page.
- Who do you interview?
We aim to interview only those people we really need
to see so we can make a decision about their application.
If you fully prepare your application and send all the
documents we need, the visa officer may be able to make
a decision without an interview. We strongly recommend
that you provide English translations of any documents
which are in other languages.
- What if you refuse my application for a visa?
85% of applicants world-wide receive the visa that they
have applied for. If we refuse you a visa, we will send
you a written notice explaining why. To make sure that
we have made a fair decision in line with the immigration
rules, an entry clearance manager will review the decision.
In some cases, you will have the right to appeal against
the decision. This is free. The types of application
you have a right to appeal against are set out in UK
law. If we refuse your visa, we will tell you if you
have the right to appeal and, if so, we will advise
you on how to appeal.
If you do not have a right to appeal, you can still
write and ask us to review your application again. You
should provide copies of any relevant supporting documents
and full reasons why you think that the decision was
wrong. This will help the entry clearance manager to
review your application thoroughly.
If we have previously refused you a visa, you can make
another application at any time, but if the reasons
why we refused you a visa before still apply, we may
refuse it again.
